If you're looking for an adviser
Browsing
You can search and read every page without telling us anything. Our server keeps ordinary access logs (the address your connection came from, the pages requested, the browser) for up to 30 days, to keep the site running and catch abuse.
We also use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, and Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) advertising tools to measure our advertising and to show Sussed ads to people who have visited. These set cookies and send Google and Meta an identifier for your browser, the pages you visit here, and whether you sent a request; they don't get your name, email or phone number from us. Google and Meta use that information under their own privacy policies. We don't sell browsing data to anyone.
When you ask for an introduction
We collect your name, email address, phone number, what you need help with, your district, a rough loan size, plus anything you write in the message box. We also record the time, the address the request came from and the wording you agreed to.
Here is exactly who sees it:
- One adviser at a time. Your request goes to the adviser you chose, or to one adviser who covers your district if you asked us to match you. Until they accept, they see what you need, your district and the loan size band, but not your name, email or phone number.
- Your details are released only on acceptance. When an adviser accepts, they get your name, email, phone number and message, and we email you to say who has them.
- If they don't respond. If you agreed to it on the form, and the adviser you chose declines or doesn't reply in time, we offer your request to up to three other advisers who cover your district, one at a time, and tell you each time. If nobody nearby can take it, we find one ourselves: the person who runs Sussed rings around verified advisers and offers your request to one who will take it, the same way, one at a time. We never send your request to several advisers at once.
- Sussed staff. The person who runs Sussed can see every request in order to run the service, sort out problems and check that advisers are behaving.
We keep your request so you and the adviser can see what happened, and so we can bill the adviser. You can withdraw it at any time from the link in your email; withdrawing stops it going any further, but an adviser who has already accepted keeps the details you agreed to share.
When you leave a review
We collect your first name, your district if you give it, your email address, what the adviser helped with and when, and the review itself. Your first name and district are published with the review; your email is never published. We keep it so we can confirm the review was yours and so the same person can't review the same adviser twice.
When you report something
We keep the reason, what you wrote, your email if you gave it and the address the report came from, so we can look into it and reply.
If you're an adviser
Your profile starts from facts already public on the Financial Service Providers Register, which the Companies Office publishes for exactly this purpose. That includes your registered name, FSP number, licence holder, dispute resolution scheme and business address. We don't add anything to it until you claim it.
When you claim a profile we collect your login email address, and we use publicly available details for you and your firm to check the claim. Everything you then add to your profile is published as you wrote it, marked as provided by you. Your notification email and phone number are used only to send you introductions and are never published.
We keep a record of every introduction offered to you and what you did with it, because that decides what you're billed and, as we say on the site, affects where you appear in results.
If you ask to be removed, from your settings or from the link on your profile, your listing comes off Sussed at once: out of results, no profile page, no introductions. We keep the register facts in our database, as they're public anyway, but we no longer republish them unless you claim the profile again. We keep the account and billing records for seven years, as tax law requires.
Everyone
Signing in
We sign you in with a link we email you. We keep your email address, when you signed in, and a cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days. There are no passwords to leak.
Cookies
Ours: the sign-in cookie above, and one that carries your answers between the screens of the introduction form until you send it. Google's and Meta's: the analytics and advertising cookies described under Browsing. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, opt out of Google's use at Google's opt-out page, and adjust Meta's at your Facebook ad settings; the site works without them.
Where it's kept
On servers in Australia run by our hosting provider, and email is sent through a transactional email service. We choose providers that keep data encrypted in transit and at rest.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email hello@sussed.co.nz or call 03 926 6646 and we'll reply within 20 working days, usually much sooner. If you're not happy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we'll say so here with the date. The consent wording you agreed to when you sent a request is kept with the request, so it can't change under you.
